Traditional Asian medicine comprises several different practices that are used in treating infertility. Acupuncture has been shown to be a safe and effective method of treating some types of infertility. Here at Seitai Acupuncture, we provide Japanese and Chinese acupuncture, as well as Japanese Kampo (herbal medicine) for the treatment of infertility and other conditions. Our three locations serve the New York City neighborhoods of Staten Island, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.
Acupuncture can help with fertility in a number of ways. Treatment with Asian medicine alone may be sufficient to resolve issues such as spasmed tubes. It can also be used in conjunction with Western medicine. Acupuncture treatment both before and after embryo transfer has been found to increase implantation success rates when using IVF. It may also be used to reduce rates of miscarriage, especially during the first trimester. For women who have infertility that is secondary to some other condition, such as a thyroid issue, acupuncture may be able to treat the source of the problem.
Certain conditions cannot be treated with herbs and acupuncture alone, such as blocked fallopian tubes. However, once the tubes have been unblocked through Western medical techniques, acupuncture can help improve rates of conception. There are a number of conditions shown to respond to acupuncture alone:
Acupuncture as a fertility treatment isn't only for women. Men can also benefit from treatment if they are known or suspected to be the cause (or part of the cause) of infertility.
If you are having trouble conceiving, it's time to come talk to our acupuncture experts. Even if you are being treated by a conventional fertility specialist, we may be able to increase your chances of success. Using a mix of Western and Asian medicine has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of infertility, and some types of infertility respond to Asian medicine alone.
